Biographies on School Board

Patrick Mulrenin - President

Patrick Mulrenin and his wife Anne are parents of 2 boys. Their youngest son is affected by Autism and attends the Home Hub program. Pat has been actively involved in the Autism community in both Macomb and Oakland counties. He has served on the Board for the Macomb/St. Clair County Chapter of the Autism Society and has been a supporter of the Rising Star Academy for many years. Pat’s background is in Accounting and is an entrepreneur who recently retired as owner of Fieldstone Winery in Rochester, Michigan.

Nicole Vaughn - Vice President
Nicole has been an educator in Detroit Public Schools Community District for over 15 years and is a proud Michigan resident. She is the proud adoptive mother of five dynamic children. Nicole has attended both the University of Michigan and Central Michigan University where she has earned four graduate degrees. Nicole is passionate about learning and helping others. She recognizes the importance that we all sometimes need help and support to achieve our goals. Nicole is dedicated to supporting students academically as well as socially and emotionally. Nicole is dedicated to fostering equitable, high-quality education that prepares students for success in college, careers, and life. Her experience, empathy, and unwavering advocacy make her a strong voice for students, families, and educators alike.

Cassandra Lane - Secretary

Cassandra Lane is a proud parent of two young adults who are both developmentally-delayed due to being impacted by the Autism Spectrum Disorder. Her daughter is a student at Rising Stars Academy and participates as a volunteer worker at one of the many organizations that partner with the work program offered by Rising Stars Academy. Her son is a MISD student who is also a volunteer worker at some of the many organizations partnering with the work program offered at his school. Cassandra has a background in nursing, customer service, entrepreneurship, and was a WAHM before it became popular to be one. She is currently a full-time loving MamaBear and caregiver to her adult children who are the two loves of her life, but side-hustles as a Professional Resumé Preparer and an Avon Ambassador. She is a proud advocate for not only the students at Rising Stars Academy but for special needs students as a whole. Being a servant at heart, a source of pride for Cassandra is that she is an active leader in ministry on the Nurses Guild as a Church Nurse at her place of worship. She is all of a bibliophile, logophile, melophile, philomath, epistemophile, and in her spare time enjoys cooking, journaling, crossword puzzles, dispersing wisdom to the misguided, and studying her Bible. FUN FACT about Cassandra: She is a self-taught online chess player. 

Deanna Michaux - Treasurer

I am honored to serve on the Board of Directors for Rising Stars Academy. I have been with Bank of America for 29 years and currently serve as a Vice President and Leasing Officer. As a mother of two, I have a deep personal connection to Rising Star’s mission. My oldest daughter, Sarah, is 23 years old and is Down Syndrome. She attends Rising Stars Academy, where she continues to grow and thrive. Being part of this community is incredibly meaningful to me, and I am proud to support opportunities for all students to learn and succeed. Serving on this board is very close to my heart, and I am deeply committed to giving back to a community that has meant so much to my family.

Cean M. Willis, CPA - Trustee

Serving on the Board of Directors for this organization is deeply personal to me. As the parent of a son with special needs who has benefitted from this program, I have experienced firsthand the positive impact that compassionate support, meaningful opportunities, and an inclusive community can have on individuals and their families.

Professionally, I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) with a strong background in financial management, strategic planning, and organizational accountability. Throughout my career, I have been committed to helping organizations make sound financial decisions that support long-term growth and sustainability. I am honored to bring those skills to the board while supporting the organization’s mission and ensuring it continues to thrive for years to come.

As both a parent and a professional, I understand the hopes, challenges, and dreams that families of individuals with special needs experience. I believe every person deserves the opportunity to reach their fullest potential, be treated with dignity and respect, and be part of a community that values their unique abilities.

It is a privilege to serve an organization that has made such a meaningful difference in my family’s life. I am committed to giving back by helping strengthen its mission, advocating for the individuals it serves, and ensuring that future families continue to experience the same care, support, and opportunities that have meant so much to us.
